Smile Design
Do you or people you know cover up your smiles because you’re embarrassed or unhappy with the way your teeth or gums look? If so, a smile design evaluation and treatment plan may help define the problem and develop a plan for correcting it. It is the first step to begin down the road to investing in a smile make-over.
What is smile design?
Smile design is a cosmetic diagnostic procedure that uses treatment planning techniques and non-invasive clinical procedures to design improved aesthetics for the appearance of patient’s smiles, and in turn, give the patient a preview into the “what could be” with their smile presentation and esthetics.
Before creating a smile design treatment plan, Dr. Friedman takes impressions, bite registration, and a series of photos. He uses these photos to inspect facial appearance, skin tone, hair color, teeth, gum tissue, and lips.
He also asks questions about what the patients like and don’t like about their smiles. This gives direction in individualizing how a treatment plan to design a makeover for the patient will take shape.
Very often, a non-invasive trial modification of the teeth in the office with temporary tooth forms and shades is performed to develop preview a final blueprint for the patient’s dental makeover. Once this is approved by the patient, the appointments for the makeover can be arranged with the office patient care coordinator.
What issues does smile design address?
Smile design works to address all aspects of the patient’s smile. The following areas are particularly important:
- Tooth color
- Alignment and spacing
- Missing or damaged teeth
- Proportion of gums that show
- Facial esthetics
- Maintenance
